S3GAL Overview

S3-GAL is a model of the galactic radio and (sub)millimeter foreground from 10 MHz to 100 GHz. It relies on the Global Sky Model (GSM) described in De Oliveira-Costa et al. (2008). The GSM routines and data are available through Angelica de Oliveira-Costa's website.

The S3 resources make use of the GSM in the following way : The S3 map-making utility iMap now includes an option to add total intensity Galactic foregrounds from the GSM. To use this option, you should install the GSM routines and data, make sure you have the latest version of the S3-Tools, and if you are building over an existing installation, you may need to add the following line to Config_Path.py:

GSM_DIR="/path/to/GSM/" (path to the GSM software)

and the following line to Config_Soft.py:

gsm="my_gsm" (GSM software executable)
